M109 - The Vacuum Cleaner Galaxy

M109 is a barred spiral galaxy also know as NGC 3992 or the Vacuum Cleaner Galaxy.  It was discovered by French Astronomer Pierre Mechain in 1781.  M109 has at least 1 trillion stars.  It is located in the constellation Ursa Major at 11h 57m 36.0s RA, +53o 22m 28s DEC.  M109 is 67.2 Million Light Years from Earth, and has a visual magnitude of 9.8. The best time to observe M108 is in the Spring.
